The other reason I’ve been preoccupied over the past few weeks was an English Club that I had the privilege of helping out. I didn’t take any pictures, because in that context photos seem awkward to me, but it was a good time. It was my first time attempting to help lead a class, and also the first time that my mother got to see one of her sons follow in her footsteps as an English teacher, if only for a moment. But hopefully it won’t be for the last time.
I helped with the advanced students, so our role as teachers was primarily to facilitate conversation and define new words where needed. These students already spoke English quite well, they just didn’t have a lot of opportunity to use it. By getting a group together and engaging in discussion, they could use their English skills while also having someone present who was a native speaker.
Most of the students were probably between 16 and 25, and it was cool getting to meet them and encourage them. I hope our paths cross again while I’m here. There were several Americans there leading alongside me, too, with this club being the primary reason they were in Moldova. It was wonderful seeing their passion growing for this country–some of them here for the first time.
In lieu of pics of the English Club, here is a filtered photo of the cat I live with. She’s pregnant, by the way.
